Homework: Homework Packet 7 Due Friday
Warm up: Write down 3 things you know about cancer. Flush: What is a goal you have for this class for 2nd quarter? Homework: Homework Packet 7 Due Friday
2
Cancerous cells vs. normal cells
Observations? Questions?
3
Cancerous Cells By definition, cancerous cells are cells that divide uncontrollably Meaning, they constantly go through mitosis with no regulation or reason to
4
Group Brainstorm After viewing the video, brainstorm some ideas for how we could prevent cancerous cells from dividing uncontrollably and stop the cancerous cell from spreading
5
Cell Cycle Checkpoints
During the life of the cell, there are checkpoints that: Make sure only healthy cells divide Make sure cell division only happens when it is needed Remember that interphase is our longest phase 1. G1 phase 2. S phase 3. G2 phase
6
Create a paper plate model using the diagrams provided
Required items: 4 Phases of Cell Cycle Labeled Description of what occurs in each phase Description of 3 checkpoints in their correct phase Label which phases are mitosis and which are interphase
7
Checkpoints G1 Checkpoint: Is the cell the correct size? Does it have enough nutrients? G2 Checkpoint: Did the DNA replicate properly, without any errors? Metaphase Checkpoint: Are all the chromosomes aligned properly in the middle of the cell?
