Key Features of the new GCSEs
More difficult: content, test, pass mark –proper preparation for A Level. Focus on knowledge based curriculum. Extended writing; fewer bite-sized questions. No tiering (higher and foundation), except in Maths, Science and Languages. Ebacc subjects: a fully linear structure. No modules, no coursework, no controlled assessments, except 10% in Science for practical experiments. NEA’s. Grading scale and U

Subjects Everyone will study: Maths, English (Literature and Language), Science (x2 or 3), Religious Studies , Core PE and PSHCE. We are advising some students to do additional English and we have been in contact about this. Students will choose from several subjects. Many schools do not offer this much choice! Options Evening

Other Factors COST – for some subjects these may have a cost – e.g. in Technology a contribution to buying materials and paying for ingredients for Food. Art Kit £20 and sketch book £5 Languages – all students will need to buy a dictionary (£5) and a grammar book. TRIPS – In some subjects there are compulsory trips – e.g. in Drama you will have to go to the theatre and write about it. There is also an offsite visit in Geography and History. We do ask for a contribution. Options Evening

What Happens Next? If teachers feel they are not the right choices – we will discuss them with students and their parents/carers We will do our best to allocate choices fairly. Options Evening
