2 Key Principles Popular Sovereignty (authority of the people)
Example: “We the People” in the Preamble Republican Government (people rule through elected reps) Elected people make laws/carry out government on behalf of the people Republic and representative gov’t mean the same thing Limited Government (government powers strictly defined & given by the people) Federalism (state gov’t and national government share power) Enumerated powers – specifically given Reserved Powers – for the state Concurrent Powers – shared between federal and state Implied Powers – suggested but not directly stated in the Constitution Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land
