2. About me…. I am in my 16th year of teaching at DHS
Graduated from Cal State, Fullerton
I teach 4 sections of German & one section of AVID (9)
This is my 1st year of teaching AVID.

3. AVID WEBSITE
The AVID Website is a great place to get caught up on what is going on in class, view pictures from events, and download important forms.
The website is available from the DHS website under Academics, or just go to aviddhs.weebly.com

4. Binders
Binders are a major component of the class & are graded every 2 weeks.
Students should have an organized binder sectioned by class.
It should show evidence of organization by the use of a daily planner, zipper pouch of all necessary items, and most current notes behind each tab

5. Focused notes/ Cornell Notes
Cornell Notes – they should be taking CORNELL style notes in EVERY academic class

6. Cornell Notes
The purpose of Cornell notes is to give a student a reason to revisit, revise & summarize class notes on a regular basis.
The Cornell method has been scientifically proven to improve the retention of academic content.

7. Tutorials Every Tuesday & Friday we meet in tutorial groups.
These sessions are led by college age, trained tutors
Students are expected to be fully engaged during this process, by either presenting a point of confusion (POC) or helping a student through their POC through the INQUIRY process.

8. Tutorials
Students are to bring a completed Tutorial Request Form (TRF) every Tuesday & Friday.
Students should be generating questions ( a POC) from regular class notes, homework, quizes & study guides.

9. Making the most of AVID Please check your students notes
Check if they are asking questions on the left side & creating a summary at the bottom
Make sure they keep that Binder ORGANIZED! It will be a large component of the grade. College Tutors grade them with my guidance
Get Involved! Encourage your student to join a club, or athletic team!
