2. Why do we have four season? A misleading fact about what causes a season is the distance the earth is away form the sun. This is not true. 3. What causes the seasons? When the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun, that is when we experience winter. Since the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun and experiences summer, the southern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun causing winter.
