2 Language Arts – Warm Up 08/28/18
Sensory Language First, turn in any scavenger hunts you may still have. They are past due! Next, complete the “Add Some Glaring Flare” handout using sensory language to enhance each sentence. Example: The room was cold. The room was frigid and felt like an igloo. If you finish early, read your book independently!

3 Language Arts – Work Session 08/28/17
Essential Question: How can I unpack the embedded assessment? Standard: ELACC6RL3 – Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.

4 Language Arts – Work Session 08/28/18
Q-H-T Each person should label their 3 Post-Its with: Q (questions) H (heard of) T (teach) Then, turn to page 2 of your SpringBoard. Find the academic vocabulary and literary terms. Put those words on Q for words you have questions about H for words you have heard of, but don’t know more T for words you know so well you could teach them (and be prepared to teach them!) Once you have all the terms on your Post-Its, put the Post-Its on the giant Q-H-T posters where they belong.

5 Language Arts – Work Session 08/28/18
SpringBoard Unit 1- Activity 1.1 Using a complete sentence for each question, answer the essential questions on page 4 of your SpringBoard text. Yes, you may write in your book. Significant – important

6 Language Arts – Work Session 08/28/18
SpringBoard Unit 1- Activity 1.1 (Continued) Read the instructions for “Unpacking the Embedded Assessment 1” on page 4. Then, turn to page 48 to view the embedded assessment #1, “Writing a Personal Narrative”. Let’s review what’s expected BEFORE we complete the task later. Now, flip back to page 4 and paraphrase (write in your own words) what they expect you to do when you get to the embedded assessment. You may write this response in your book on page 4. Incident – an event that happened

7 Language Arts – Work Session 08/28/18
SpringBoard Unit 1- Activity 1.1 (Continued) Turn to page 49 and look at the rubric. The highest score you can receive comes from completing tasks in the exemplary category. Look at ideas in the exemplary category. What do you have to do to earn a perfect score in ideas? Next, you will work in groups to paraphrase (write in your own words) your assigned bullet point from the rubric on page 49. Once you have paraphrased what they want you to do, you will place your answer on a sentence strip to go on the poster for Unit 1.

8 Language Arts – Closing Session 08/28/18
Independent Reading As you read, see if you can identify different examples of sensory language in your book. We will have book chats this week! You must have read at least part of your book to be able to participate! Homework: Complete the “Add Some Glaring Flare” handout. It’s due tomorrow! Check your Synergy account! Read your independent book. Read articles on ReadTheory.org or Zync Learning Labs. Check the blog!
