3 Assessment Challenges
What are some of the things you dislike most about grading, assessing, and giving feedback? What challenges do you wish you could eliminate? Open up with challenges we have around providing feedback on student assessments -- [hard to give timely feedback, often give same comments over and over, kids don’t read my comments, can’t read my writing, get feedback when it’s too late, etc]. Today, we’re going to try to do some problem solving.

Open up with challenges we have around providing feedback on student assessments -- [hard to give timely feedback, often give same comments over and over, kids don’t read my comments, can’t read my writing, get feedback when it’s too late, etc]. Today, we’re going to try to do some problem solving.

5 Goals for Formative Feedback
Quick turn-around time on quizzes and pre- tests so students and teachers have data before it’s too late. “Just in Time” comments that students can actually use before the final draft comes in Efficient for the teacher to grade

6 Tools for Formative Feedback
Google Comments Allows you to highlight student work and type in your comments. Documents Spreadsheets Presentations Flubaroo A script that grades your Google form quiz by comparing spreadsheet answers against a key. Students & teachers get results instantly!

10 Let’s test out Flubaroo… http://goo.gl/DB522A
Create your own Google Form to demonstrate Flubaroo

11 Plug In Add a comment to one of your existing shared documents, spreadsheets, or presentations. Create a sample quiz on Google forms and send the link to at least two other people in the room. Then, grade it using Flubaroo. Plug in challenges are small tasks teachers can usually accomplish quickly, in the workshop, to get more familiar with the tools. These are suggestions, but you can change and adapt them to work for your staff.

12 Tools for Summative Assessment
Saved Remarks Allows you to pre-write common comments and insert them into multiple documents. Copy and Paste Text Expander Apps Turnitin Grademark Voice Comments Leave quick memos in student work, saving you time, and increasing the impact on students. Kaizena (free!) Turnitin Grademark

17 Power Up Use voice comments or create and use a saved set of “common comments” for at least one assignment / assessment this month. Go paperless! Push yourself and your students to make the entire assessment loop electronic: assignment sheet, drafting, collection, assessing, returning. Suggested challenges that you can adapt to the specifics of your situation.
