DUAL ENROLLMENT What is it? How does it work & who is eligible? Where? When? How much?

2 What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual enrollment is the opportunity for high school students to take college courses. We use the term “dual enrollment” to mean that certain criteria has been met in order to qualify as dual enrollment, or coursework where the school district contributes toward the cost. 1-2 class periods release time are allowed and can count toward high school credit, if needed (not recommended)

3 How does it work/who is eligible?
High school students who: a. Meet the required scores on one of the following standardized tests: PSAT, SAT or ACT b. Are enrolled in at least one high school class c. Have applied & are admitted to a post-secondary institution d. Each student should meet individually with a counselor who will make recommendations regarding dual enrollment

4 Where? Central Michigan University Mid Michigan Community College

5 When? Scheduling courses at CMU or at MMCC depends greatly on your high school schedule. Challenges exist with attempting to fit semester courses into a high school trimester format Considerations: prerequisites, daily schedule, travel time, parking, school breaks, extra-curricular, etc. Enough credits for graduation

6 How much? Dual enrollment costs are figured by the sum of the state portion of the districts’ foundation allowance, per pupil, adjusted for the proportion of the school year that the student attends the postsecondary institution.

7 Cost Examples CMU 3 credit course (current tuition rate - $417/cr. hr.) = $ $ = $735.50 MMCC 3 credit course (current tuition rate - $202/cr. hr. out of district) = $606 + approx. $115/fees = $721 - $ = $205.50 * rates
