THEORY There three main Theories in Sociology
Symbolic Interactionist Perspective -Looks at how people interact with each other and how they make sense out of these interactions through use of symbols.

Structural Fuctionalism
Based on the notion that society is stable, orderly system characterized by social consensus. Society is composed of interrelated parts, each of which serves a function and ideally contributes to the wellbeing of society.

Functions are divided into two:
a) Manifest functions -- intended or overtly recognized by the participants. b) Latent -- unintended functions that are hidden. Dysfunction -- bad outcome of given functions.

Social Conflict sees society as being an arena where there is a constant power struggle for control of scarce resources.
