If you are going to Arthog a full 16A is no longer required, however a travel risk assessment and risk assessments for downtime activities will be required if the activities are not provided by Arthog. Furthermore, when using activity centres, if the centre you're using holds any of the recognised accreditation logos on page 59 of the Regulations and Guidelines, a Risk Assessment for the activity programme is not required. If the centre does not hold any of the accreditations on page 59 a Form 16D will be required. These changes are reflected in an updated Form 16A and the Regulations and Guidelines.

7 Key Functions of the EVC
provide appropriate guidance / procedures for staff   ensure that the guidance / procedures are understood (i.e. provide appropriate induction and training) make a judgement call about the competence of colleagues to lead visits (or support the Head to do this) monitor to check that guidance / procedures are being followed by staff in planning and leadership of visits keep appropriate records review systems Worth highlighting that EVCs who feel they aren’t in a position to make a judgement call re competence of staff in their setting must discuss this with the Head on return to base to ensure this is covered effectively – note on their action plan?

8 The Golden rule! Make sure your Educational Visits policy and visit planning / approval procedures meet the employer’s requirements and that your staff follow your policy/procedures. The employer can then support you in the unlikely event of an incident. In the event of an incident you will be judged against your employer’s policy / procedures. Stress the importance of following LA/employer guidance / policy – you will need to be familiar with the specific Educational visits policy/procedures that course participants have to follow. “….you must follow exactly your LA guidance….” (Educational Visits: A Checklist for Members - NASUWT)

9 Passport rules for travel to Europe after Brexit
Rules for passports The rules for travel to most countries in Europe will change if the UK leaves the European Union (EU) with no deal. After 29 March 2019: You should have 6 months left on your passport from your date of arrival. This applies to adult and child passports. If you renewed a 10 year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. These extra months will not count. The new rules will apply to passports issued by the UK, Gibraltar, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Jersey.

11 HM Chief Inspector commentary
A commentary from Amanda Spielman (Ofsted Chief Inspector) HMI research on curriculum and the new education inspection framework Worth reading as the emphasis in a revised framework is looking towards inspecting the curriculum rather than just the results. Includes snippets such as; Primary school leaders also enriched their schools’ quality of education with well-planned regular trips to the local area and beyond that were tightly linked to their curriculums. Several headteachers commented in similar terms: “If children have never visited a castle or dug their toes in the sand at the beach, how can they write about these experiences?”” “Leaders placed an emphasis on developing the skills pupils would need for future learning, often referring to resilience, a growth mind-set and perseverance. These were explicit intentions rather than by-products of the curriculum, or developed through extra-curricular activities.”
