How to Study Independently in A Level Chemistry Consolidation and Revision Preparation Right from the start of the year you can be condensing and consolidating your notes so you have all of the resources you need ready when it comes to exam time, this will also help you to highlight any gaps in your learning. Use your notes from lessons or your text book to create condensed consolidation notes outlining the key concepts, reactions, equations or definitions you need to remember, you could complete these after your notes fro every lesson, or keep them in a separate book or folder. Create a glossary of all of the key terms, formula and equations you need to remember. Create flash cards for key organic molecules, mechanisms, reactions, conditions, definitions, formulas, shapes of molecules, or key facts. For organic chemistry you can create synthetic interconversion maps to show reaction pathways which allow you to create one organic molecule from another, this becomes really important as you prepare for exams. 1. Use the Syllabus to check your understanding of the topics covered in lessons already, you could make condensed revision notes on the topics you have already covered. 2. If you are struggling with this, use ChemGuide to work through any sections you struggle with, the ChemGuide link provided is a menu which matches up exactly to the specification points. The layout isn’t the most exciting! But it explains difficult concepts extremely well, why not print the notes and create your own colorful revision notes from them? Recap Learning All of these links are on the google classroom Code: 2zoyr4 Past papers, At the start of the year this wont be easy, but as you cover more content look through past papers for questions you can answer to test you knowledge . As you prepare for exam time, use past papers more frequently, it’s not cheating to have a mark scheme printed off ready, test yourself, see what you can do without notes, but use your notes to work through tougher questions and check against the mark scheme, it’s always good to see exactly what the examiner is looking for, for example, which words do you need to include to get those 2 marks for a definition? How many significant figures? How have they presented their displayed formula? Highlight the parts of your answers you have gained or lost marks. Exam Practice What to do when you have ‘Nothing to do’
