Plot & Conflict:
2
The Plot Diagram
3
Introduction The introduction should introduce the reader to at least one of the main characters, establish a setting, and create a tone.
4
Rising Action The rising action in your story should introduce the conflict and get it moving along.
5
Climax This is the most exciting part of your story; this is the part where a significant change occurs.
6
Falling Action This is the part of the plot where the story is wrapping up and it is heading toward the conclusion.
7
Conclusion This is the section of the plot where the story comes to an end. All plot points should be resolved and leave the reader feeling satisfied.
8
Conflict There are a few types of conflict. You’ll want to focus primarily on one of the following:
9
Person vs. Person This is the classic “good guy” versus “bad guy.”
It could also be two family members disagreeing, a boyfriend and girlfriend arguing, or two rival players.
10
Person Versus Self This is the type of conflict where someone can’t make up there mind about something. In rare cases, it can literally be someone fighting with themselves such as Me, Myself, and Irene.
11
Person Versus Nature In this type of conflict, a person is struggling against an act of nature.
12
Person Versus Technology
With this conflict, someone is in conflict with technology. It can be major, such as an army of robots, or simple, such as losing your password.
13
Activity On half a sheet of paper, list the type of conflict you’d like to use in your story (choose just one).
