3 Rule 6: Live Ball, Dead Ball
When Does a “Live Ball” become a “Dead Ball”? When a goal is scored When a free throw is missed, and followed by another free throw When a free throw is missed, and followed by a throw in When a held ball occurs When the ball lodges between the ring and backboard or comes to rest on the flange When an officials whistle is blown (exception noted) When time expires for a quarter or extra period When a Foul Occurs Exception: Continuous Motion Exception: Ball in flight during try, tap or free throw When a free throw violation by the offense When a violation occurs

4 Rule 6: Live Ball, Dead Ball
When a contact foul occurs during a LIVE BALL, the foul MUST be Personal, regardless of the nature of the foul… even the beginning of a fight We also know that when a contact foul occurs during a DEAD BALL… the foul must be Technical. (exception: Involving an Airborne Shooter: when the ball has passed through the basket, which causes the ball to become Dead, and then the airborne shooter commits a player control foul)

5 Rule 6: Live Ball, Dead Ball
In addition a Personal Foul can Never occur during a Dead Ball. ( exception - player control) Once again… that foul would be a Technical Foul. Also Unsporting Fouls may occur whether the ball is Live or Dead.
