English Leader – Edward III – a relative of the French King claimed ownership of the French throne Edward III launches an attack against France – fighting goes on and off from

Hundred Years War English use a new weapon called a longbow- used to kill many soldiers from a very long range Result: England winning at the outset of the war English and French sign a truce – England’s current leader Henry V would inherit the crown once the current French King died Truce fails, fighting continues

Hundred Years War Joan of Arc, French Peasant Girl, is given a prophecy: She will lead the French Army She will lead France to victory over the English She will establish Prince Charles as the King of France Joan of Arc rallies the French Army to fight back and finally defeat the English

During the war, a strong sense of nationalism (Pride in one’s country or ethnicity) develops in both France and England French victory leads France to develop a strong monarchy English defeat leads to turmoil in England over who should lead
