Iris- —In Greek mythology, Iris is the personified goddess of the rainbow. She is regarded as the messenger of the gods to mankind, and particularly of the goddess Hera whose orders she brought to humans. Iris is the daughter of Titan Thaumas and the nymph Electra. She is portrayed as a young woman with wings and her attributes are a herald's staff and a water pitcher.

The Fates • The Fates, or Moirae, were the goddesses who controlled the destiny of everyone. They were: Clotho, the spinner, who spun the thread of a person's life, Lachesis, the apportioner, who decided how much time was to be allowed each person, and Atropos, the inevitable, who cut the thread when you were supposed to die. Even though the other gods were almighty, all were subject to the whims of the Fates. The Fates were very important, but it is still unknown to who their parents were.

Atropos is occasionally depicted as cutting life’s threads with scissors and sometimes with her own teeth.

The Furies / The Erinyes The Furies, or Erinyes, who are the daughters of Gaia and Uranus. They resulted from a drop of Uranus' blood falling onto the earth. They live in the Underworld, serving Hades and tormenting evildoers. However, Greek poets saw them as pursuing sinners on Earth. The Furies are cruel, but are also renowned for being very fair.

The Furies or Erinyes would torment those who had committed wrongdoing
The Furies or Erinyes would torment those who had committed wrongdoing. Specifically, they tormented those who had committed murder.

Graeae (Grai-Eye) The three "old women" or "gray ones" from Greek mythology. They are the daughters of Phorcys and Ceto, sisters and guardians of the Gorgons. They were gray- haired from birth and have only one eye and one tooth, which they share among them. They are Enyo ("horror"), Deino ("dread") and Pemphredo ("alarm").

Who are the Graeae? Enyo = Horror Deino = Dread Pemphredo = Alarm

Sirens These crooning creatures were monsters who lured ships of sailors to rocky coasts with wonderful songs and then devoured them when their ships crashed.

The Siren Myth: Odysseus wanted to see what was so alluring about the Sirens. He had his men tie him to his ship’s mast and plug their own ears with a mixture of cotton and wax. He told them not to untie him no matter how much he begged. Then they entered the land of the Sirens. Odysseus threatened his sailors with death if they didn’t untie him; luckily they could not hear him, so they passed through safely.

The Chimera The Chimera was a monster with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a serpent.

Belleraphon and the Chimera
Athena allowed Belleraphon to ride Pegasus to slay the chimera. This is the only myth in which anyone rides Pegasus. After slaying the chimera, Belleraphon thought he was a Playa, and he thought he should be made a god. He rode Pegasus up to Mount Olympus. Zeus saw this and said, “Not so fast, Playa!” And he smote him with a thunderbolt. Belleraphon fell to earth, was crippled, and lived out the rest of his days alone and sad.

Oedipus this clever cripple was the son of a king, whom he accidentally killed, and the husband of a queen, who incidentally turned out to be his own mother. Although smart and brave, the tragic warrior came to no good end.

Achilles Legendary warrior whose mother dipped him in Styx as a baby to make him invincible. The place where she held him as she dipped him was his only vulnerable spot. Achilles was killed by a divinely inspired arrow.

The Achilles Tendon: With this being the place Achilles’s mother held him, this area was Achilles’s only vulnerable spot. This is why the tendon is referred to as the “Achilles Tendon.”

Procrustes… had an iron bed, in which he invited every passer-by to spend the night, and where he set to work on them with his smith's hammer, to stretch them to fit. if the guest proved too tall, Procrustes would amputate the excess length.

CENTAURS… Half-man and half-horse, the centaurs were known for their archery skills as well as their wild, unruly natures. However, there was ONE centaur who was known for his unparalleled wisdom. His name was… CHIRON

SATYRS… Half-man, half-goat, satyrs were known for their lusty, disgusting natures. They are the followers of PAN, the god of fields and woods. Pan could make people feel “panic” if he played his flute.
