1 Let me take you to Chad

2 Chad: Sahel Climate. This year, 6 Million children suffer from acute malnutrition.

3 Let me tell you about one of those children: 6 year old Yasmin who lives in the village of Hille Bar. The food she has in that bowl is all that she will have for the day. To provide for their children, parents will reduce the frequency they eat to give more to their children But why so little food?

4 To give a sense, river shot from a drone.
Two months earlier, the river had been full.

6 Why no food. How high should your crops be now
Why no food. How high should your crops be now? Rain can late and finished early. Higher than normal temperatures. Crops started to germinate, but then died

7 Finds an ants nest. Dig down 1 meter until I get to the seeds that the ant have stored.

8 family This is the food for the family for the day. So despite all their best efforts, there is need for the church to step in. The only hope is the work of Tf’s partner PEDC. Evangelical Church of Chad. But its wrong just to feed people, as every person has a God given potential. And we must avoid dependency. Often work in helping communities to see the resources they have and how they can do things differently to make better use of the resources they have to hand. But this is also the edge of disaster. Foof for work.

9

10 Unlocking potential Even with handouts
Diking. Flooded 72 hectares and will be used for replanting garden crops (grown to avoid pests, but then strong enough to be planted out) to get out of season harvest. Managing water conservation, animal husbandry. Helping them improve their situation themselves for the longer term. So they no longer feel powerless, humiliated, fearful.

11 Hope through the Local church
“We marvel at the way PEDC has supported us – even though it is not a Muslim organisation. They have shown a different face of Christians and Christianity. In fact we have been really touched and this has helped us to become closer to Christians” Pastor Nesta on the right

12 But how much does this all cost? To turn Yasmins prospects from this:

13 ..to this? To support an individual through a food for work programme like this, ans provide two meals a day and the support to help them own their own solutions for the long term cost 33p/day. Less than the cost of most newspapers. The ask.
