3 Involúcrate: objectives
1. To create a space for discussing and enjoying Science 2. To provide a showcase for the fantastic work done through the semester. 3. To inspire, involve and inform!

4 The event: A science Café
Monday 5th May 16:00 – 18:00 hrs 1 room per teaching group on 4th floor Each group has a guest investigator Worth 10% of final mark Other guests: people who use Science in their work Work from semester displayed Groups 30 – 32 in Spanish Groups 41 &42 in English

5 Guests At least one person working in a field of investigation
You must produce a scientific poster about their research in advance of the day. Other guests may be people working using Science in their job! Could be engineers, doctors or people working in labs or the environment etc. Each guest must have a stall in the room on which they show things and at which they can interact with the audience Interactions should be informal and interesting. Guests can bring in what they like to provide information.

Get information from them to create a scientific poster of their work. 2. Invite other people who use science in their work Find out as much as possible about what they do to help you create materials for the room 3. Find out what your guests will need and what they will bring. Identify which themes from investigations course you want to include in the café.

7 Planning contd. 4. Identify pieces of work: videos, presentations posters etc. to display or show. Book tv etc. if needed. Upload videos to school computer in advance of the event. 5. Design a guide to the café to help people understand what there is to see and discuss 6. Plan hospitality: food and drink (no alcohol) Design decoration of the room.

What it must contain Value and criteria Investigator You must have a guest currently working in research 5 marks Scientific Poster About investigator´s work Neat presentation, correctly spelt, including visual and text elements, gives understandable summary of work: 15 marks Other guests Working in science or engineering field 1 mark per guest up to 3 7 marks per stand for quality of information available, 1 mark bonus (25 marks) Guide Explains to the visitor what they will encounter in the room Informative, clear, attractively presented, innovative, correctly spelt: 5 marks Good work Quality pieces of work displayed All themes of the course covered: 8 marks, quality of display 2 marks

What it must contain Value and criteria Interview Students in trios interview their own investigator plus 3 other guests - recorded 3 Intelligent questions per guest (pre-prepared) that elicit information. 5 marks per interview (total 20 marks) Decoration The room is made to look an inviting and attractive space for conversation 5 marks for excellence Hospitality Food and drink provided and served Quality of service. And quality of food and drink: 5 marks Visitors book Target of 3 guests per class member Achieved: 5 marks or proportion of targetX 5 if not achieved. Thanks Form of recognition and appreciation for guest participants, e.g certificate Formally presented and attractive and innovative 5 marks Total 100 marks Competition Judged by adult visitors 5 – 1 1st to 5th position (bonus marks)
