1 THE EFFECT OF COLOR

2 RED Red is overstimulating for kids; it can make kids more active
Red raises a room’s energy level It is ok to use on outdoor equipment and accent colors

3 GREEN Green is positive. It makes children feel calm, refreshed, peaceful and restful (except neon green!) Green is good for the isolation room, nap room, reading room, and eating areas.

4 BLUE Blue makes children feel comfortable soothed and secure.
Blue brings down blood pressure and breathing. Blue is good for nap areas and reading areas.

5 YELLOW Yellow makes people feel happy and cheerful.
Yellow captures sunshine and feelings of happiness and positivity. Yellow is good for art and music areas. Can also be used for eating area.

6 PURPLE Purple can have a mournful, sad effect. (unless it is very bright) It is best used as an accent color. Purple is great for bulletin boards. Purple can also be restful….so for nap area or reading area.

7 ORANGE Orange is welcoming, forceful and energetic so it should be limited Orange is good for the entrance. Orange is great for active areas, exercise areas

8 Warm colors Warm colors such as red, yellow, and orange evoke warmth because they remind us of things like the sun or fire.

9 Cool Colors Cool colors such as blue, green, and purple (violet) evoke a cool feeling because they remind us of things like water or grass.

10 Primary Colors – these three colors can make any other color

11 Secondary Colors

12 Complimentary Colors – opposite on the color wheel

13 Complimentary colors make the strongest contrast when next to each other.
