2 Eli Whitney Born December 8, 1765 in Westboro, Massachusetts
Studied at Yale University to be a lawyer and graduated in 1792 Began working on Mulberry Plantation and learned of the manual labor needed for cleaning cotton Whitney made a machine called the Cotton Gin that would quickly and effectively clean the cotton using hooks, wires and rotating brushes This invention grew rapidly popular Whitney was also know for inventing interchangeable parts to fit multiple guns using a machine that sliced metal and shaped it to mass produce Married Henrietta Edwards Died on January 8, 1825 in New Haven, Connecticut

3 John Deere Born February 7, 1804 in Rutland, Vermont
Began his career as a Blacksmith at age 17 In 1837 he moved west setting up a Blacksmith shop in Detour, Illinois Decided to make a plow to break through the thick heavy soil of the Prairie after having to make multiple repairs to the original plow made for the eastern US soft, sandy soil By 1840, he had made 40 plows and sold them to local farmers and by 1846 he was producing 1,000 plows with his new partner Leonard Andrus Married Demarius Lamb – 5 children; then Lucinda Lamb after her death – 4 children Died May 17, 1886 in Moline, Illinois
