Tissues, Organs & Systems
2
Tissues A group of specialized cells that have the same structure and function.
3
Four Types of Tissues Type Function Example Epithelial Connective
line organ surfaces skin organ walls etc. Connective hold everything together Tendons cartilage - etc. Muscle contract and change sizes muscles organs blood vessels Nervous Senses stimuli and transmits signals brain spinal cord nerves - etc
5
Organs Different tissues types grouped together to perform a specific function. Ex. - Artery - Skin - Liver - Pancreas - Etc. Artery Tissue
6
Systems A group of organs that perform a common task.
Ex. The digestive system consists of many organs throughout the body which transform food into nutrients for the body. Then the excess is discarded.
7
System Function 1 Digestive 2 Respiratory 3 Circulatory 4 Lymphatic
Transforms food into nutrients the body can use. 2 Respiratory Provides the body with oxygen while eliminating carbon dioxide. 3 Circulatory Fluids transport nutrients throughout the body and carry toxins toward the liver and lungs. 4 Lymphatic Drain liquids from tissues, placing it back into the bloodstream. Removes cell debris and harmful bacteria
8
System Function 5 6 7 8 Excretory Nervous Musculoskeletal Reproductive
Balances the liquids in the body. Removes urea waste (urea is found in foods containing protein) 6 Nervous Systems control Thinking and Memory 7 Musculoskeletal Body movement Protects and holds organs in place 8 Reproductive Gamete production (sperm and egg)
9
Pulling It Together Systems Cells form form Tissues Organs form
