Revision and English To help revision, we can think about which parts of the exam demand that students demonstrate knowledge & show skills. English Literature knowledge & skill based English Language skill based Do students know plot, characters, themes, and key quotes? Can students choose quotes and analyse language and structure? Reading: Can students understand a text? Can students analyse language? Writing: Can students write accurately, with imagination, and purpose? Revision tips to make sure we don’t forget knowledge Create note cards for all set texts & poetry anthology Plot, character, theme, key quotes. Mind map, colours, images. Stick quotes or key points on post-it notes to leave in prominent places that you’ll see every day. Move notes around. Regular & repetitive tests Write down ideas/quotes then compare to note card. Make audio recordings, listen and compare to note card. Compare notes to other revision sites . What different information is included? Use Independent learning booklet. Work with study buddy. Revision tips to make sure we don’t forget knowledge Visual & Audio Watch GCSE pod. Before watching the same pod a week later, predict 5-10 key points will hear. Download poetry anthology onto phone. Listen to 1-2 a day. Before listening, say out loud the 6 key quotes which you will hear. Practise exam questions Plan your response to every example question. Complete in timed conditions. Tips to make sure we develop our skills Writing: Plan a response to all the example exam questions, especially persuasive & transactional writing. Write under timed conditions. Reading: Practise past papers in timed conditions. Apply exam question to newspaper articles, stories, web pages etc. Read newspaper & magazine articles.
