2 Noting Details Information
Details are important to getting the big picture of the story. Look for modifying words that describe what and how things look or are happening Explanation Details can help to explain why information is important to a story. Look for clarifying words and sentences that help explain why events are occurring. Emotion/Motivation Details often show how characters are feeling or their motivation for various actions. Look for words that describe feelings, reasons, or characters internal thoughts. Description Details can help the reader see, hear, and feel events as they happen in the story. Look for sensory words that appeal to each of the five senses while reading.

14 Key Fall Vocabulary Detail Map
After reading each page, use a blank sheet of paper to add to a Detail Map describing informative, explanative, emotional and discriptive details from the selection. At the end of the story analyze the details that you found and categorize them into two categories (Stranger Details and Weather Details). Make sure that you are including modifying words that describe how and why events in the story happened and how things appeared. When finished go back and reread this week’s selection in order to improve reading fluency.
