1
LONG MULTIPLICATION is just multiplying two numbers
2
Let’s try it!
3
A problem 892 x 11 892 x 10 = 8,920 892 x 1 = The product of any number multiplied by 10 is that number with a zero added You don’t have to solve every problem the exact same way. With this problem it is easy to see that 1 x 892 = 892.
4
Add up the answers from the first problems
892 x 11 1 1 892 x 10 = 8,920 892 x 1 = 20 + 90 110 9 8 1 2 After the first problems, where we multiplied, now we add up the answers = = 110. So, we take down the 10 here and add the 1 to the 100s column over here. Now we add those up = = 18. Bring down the 8. Put the 1 here. = 1,800
5
Before you go Before you go … when you do any problem, you should do a reality check
6
Do a reality check Could this really be true?
7
MATH reality check 900 x 9,900 892 x 11 9,812 < 9,900
8
Check!
9
MATH reality check 892 x 11 2 x 1 ----- 2 9,812
Here is a really easy one – the 2 x 1= 1, so the last digit in your answer should be 2. Is it? 9,812
10
Check! Check again. You passed.
11
Does this pass a reality check?
892 x 11 37,475 No, it does not. Now go back to study more or take a quiz to go back to the game.
