Black History Month The story of Black History Month begins in 1915, half a century after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the United States.

Black History Month By the late 1960s, thanks in part to the civil rights movement and a growing awareness of black identity, Negro History Week had evolved into Black History Month on many college campuses.

Black History Month Black History Month was proposed by black educators and the Black United Students at Kent State University in February The first celebration of Black History Month took place at Kent State one year later, from 2/1/ /28/1970. Black History Month at Sul Ross
Each day an outstanding individual will be featured Posters highlighting important African Americans in History, at the end of the month students can select a poster to take with them. Black History bookmarks will be available in the TLC highlighting outstanding individuals.
