2 Trust Your Ear!!! Example:
Bob doesn’t know the value of the house he lives in. Bob don’t know the value of the house he lives in. The first one sounds better, right? You don’t need to know the exact grammatical rule, just what sounds right. You can spot questions that test grammar rules because the answers are roughly the same length. Read the sentences carefully, looking and listening for clues to the error.

3 Grammar Rules to Know Number Agreement:
“If a student won’t study, they won’t do well.” 2. Pronouns in Compounds “The fool gave the wrong tickets to Bob and I.” 3. Commas or Dashes (Parenthetical Phrases) “Bob – on his way to the store, saw a lizard.” 4. Commas (Run-Ons and Comma splices) “Ed’s a slacker, Sara isn’t.”

4 Grammar Rules to Know 5. Fragments “Emily listened to music. While she studied.” 6. Punctuation “I went to the store and I bought milk.” (See pg for rules) 7. –ly endings (Adverbs and Adjectives) “Anna is an extreme gifted child, and she speaks beautiful too.” 8. Good or Well “Joe did good on the ACT.” 9. Lie, Lay, Laid, Lain – see page 103 and don’t sweat it!

5 Grammar Rules to Know 10. In, Of, To, For (Idiomatic Preposition Use) “She tried to instill on me a respect to the law.” or “I want to protect your in all dangers.” 11. Who or Whom “Always remember who you’re speaking to.” 12. Its or It’s “The company claims its illegal to use it’s name that way.” 13. Their, There, or They’re and Are or Our

6 Grammar Rules to Know 14. Correct verb forms “I’ve brung my umbrella to work.” 15. Forms of the Verb To Be (see page 106) 16. –ing Endings “When I left for the store, I was forgetting my list.” 17. –er and –est, More, and Most “Bob is the fastest of the two runners.” 18. Between or Among “I will walk among the two halves of the class.” “I will walk between the many students in class.”

7 Grammar Rules to Know 19. Less or Fewer
“I have fewer water than I thought, so I can fill less buckets.” These are the primary grammar rules on the ACT. Review them as much as necessary to prepare yourselves. Now, see how well you already know them by completing the practice Passage II on page (slide a piece of paper in your book to cover page 99. You have 7 minutes.) Check your answers on pg. 99 to see which areas you most need to review!!
