3. SELECTED RESERVE / INDIVIDUAL READY RESERVE
(SR) After becoming a member of the SR, servicemembers may be recalled to active duty in a time of war or national emergency. Also they may be ordered to active duty for up to 270 days, for any single contingency operation.
(IRR) Mainly consists of individuals who have had training and who have served previously in the active component. Other IRR members come from SR and have some obligated service remaining.

4. BENEFITS
Mobilization deferment is a way to give AD sailors transitioning to the reserves some time to get set up
Two-year involuntary mobilization deferment available if affiliating within six months of release from Active Duty
One-year involuntary mobilization deferment available if affiliating between seven and twelve months after release from Active Duty
Member may volunteer for deployment any time during this mobilization deferment

5. BENEFITS CONT
Servicemembers may receive 4 days of basic pay for only 2 days of work during each drill weekend
NEX and commissary benefits
Retirement benefits after finishing 20 years of qualifying service
TRICARE Reserve Select Health Care Plans

6. TRICARE RESERVE SELECT HEALTH CARE PLAN
A premium-based healthcare plan
Available worldwide
Available for qualified Selected Reserve members and their families

7. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Members of the SR (and their families) who meet the following
Not on active duty orders
Bot covered under the Transitional Assistance Management Program
Not eligible or enrolled in the FEHB program (Federal Employees Health Benefits)
Members in the IRR including Navy Reserve Voluntary Training Units do not qualify to purchase TRICARE RS.
Certain members of the SR who are covered by the RS and involuntary sep under the other than adverse condition, may have access to extend coverage up to 180 days.

8. PROVIDERS
An authorized provider is any individual, institution/organization, or supplier that is licensed by a state, accredited by national organization, or meets other standards of the medical community, and is certified to provide benefits under TRICARE.
If you visit a non-network provider, you’ll pay higher costs and may have to file your own health care claims
If you visit a network provider you’ll pay lower cost and the provider will file the health care claims for you
