INTRODUCTION Every day we come across new words in the languages that we speak. Generally, we do not face any difficulty in understanding the new words. Linguistics explores the different ways in which new words are created in a language and also how certain words might have been formed. Let us take a look at some ways by which words can be built in languages.
3
DEFINATION Generally, word formation is the process or result of forming new words, which derived from words or group of words with the same root. In other words, word formation is defined as the ways in which new words are made on the basis of other words or morphemes.

Examples: First part of the word is retained: ad(advertisement), exam (examination) The end is clipped from word: plane(airplane), kilo (kilogram) Clipping can take place at both first part and ends of a word: fridge (refrigerator), flu (influenza) We have also a common practice to clip each other's name: like sam for samir

CONCLUSION So finally, if we take a look around,we will see a mass of new words surrounding us, brought to us both consciously by language trends and unconsciously through language change over time.
