Meaning Of “Disciple” MATHETES, a learner
Indicates thought accompanied by endeavor It is in contrast with teacher [DIDASKALOS] Not only a learner, he was also an adherent One who imitated his teacher (Lk. 6:40) Coincides with being “conformed to the image of His Son” (Rom. 8:29)

Meaning Of “Disciple” In the New Testament we read of:
Disciples of John (Matt. 9:14) Disciples of the Pharisees (Matt. 22:16) Disciples of Moses (Jn. 9:28) Disciples of Jesus (Matt. 5:1)

Characteristics A disciple of Jesus continues in His word (Jn. 8:31)
“Abide”—“continue” (KJV) or “remain in it” Nowhere else to go (Jn. 6:66-68) A “doer,” not just a “hearer” (James 1:21-25)

Characteristics A disciple of Jesus bears fruit (Jn. 15:8)

How To Become A Disciple
Disciples are made (Acts 14:21) Implies a plan of some kind (Rom. 6:17) What is in this “form of doctrine” (“pattern”) In other words, “What must we do to become a disciple?” (Acts 2:37) The answer is the same as Peter gave on Pentecost (Acts 2:38)
