Show the necessary tasks for high quality urban statistics

The perception survey The Survey planned since a long time…
300 households in 30 Urban Audit cities Telephone survey 5th – 16th January 2004 Results end of January Adding Urban Audit questions to existing opinion polls Increase the information base Supported by a grant Needs to be realised in 2004 to assure comparability Perception surveys in new Member States ?

Collection of historic data Information of the Urban Audit pilot phase (1999) not usable for various reasons Data collection for 1991 and 1996 for a selection of variables Supported by a grant Collection of “C-type” variables Proves to be very costly Only in justified cases Needs to be realised in 2004 for comparibility

Data analysis Under the responsibility of DG REGIO
Needs a call for tender to find a contractor Target: Identify clusters of cities, links between different indicators, specifities of spatial units, similarities between groups of cities (small-large, core-periphery)

The future of the Urban Audit
Urban Audit II ends in December 2004 Steering Committee to look ahead for Urban Audit continued Current and new Member States Questions to be answered: What is the framework of future cohesion policy? What indicators are needed (leading to which variables to be collected) ? Reference year, spatial units?
