EXILED COPPERHEADS (NORTHERN DEMOCRATS WHO WERE AGAINST THE WAR) 5. USED MILITARY COURTS TO TRY CIVILIANS 6. EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION - JANUARY 1, 1863. FREED ALL SLAVES HELD IN ANY STATE UNDER THE CONTROL THE CONFEDERACY.

1. HEROES OF THE BATTLEFIELD - 180,000 JOINED THE UNION ARMY. AT FIRST THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED IN BATTLE BUT WERE PERMITTED IN ,000 DIED. THE MOVIE GLORY TELLS THEIR HEROIC STORY
