Primary causes include injury and altered biomechanics, ageing, and systemic metabolic derangement (e.g., hypercholesterolemia). Green indicators represent a positive effect (protective against OA). Red indicators represent a negative effect (promoting OA). Arrows indicate a positive relationship (stimulatory effect), whereas blunt-ended arrows indicate an inhibitory effect.
