Day 3 Add 10p and 20p to 2-digit amounts of money. Before teaching, be aware that: On Day 1 you will need food items, labels with money amounts, coins, pots. On Day 2 you will need a selection of toys with price labels or the Toy Shop sheet. On Day 3 children will need mini-whiteboards and pens you will need a selection of objects, price labels, large number square, plastic spider Year 1

Children call out the coin amount as they see the coins. Ask children to help you to put these in order of value from least to most, pegging to a washing line or arranging on the IWB. Year 1

Use your coins to make 4p. Can you make 7p with your coins? Who can count their coins to show me exactly 7p? How many coins have you used? Quickly change your coins to show me 9p. Who can count their coins to show me that you have exactly 9p? This should be a fast paced starter changing the amounts quickly. Year 1

Starter Count in 10s from a 1-digit number Simmering skills – to use this starter, drag this slide to the start of Day 3 Find a tin or money box that will make a noise when the coins are dropped. Tell children that there is 5p in the tin and you are going to drop 10p coins in. Together count on in steps of 10p up to 95p. Repeat starting from 7p. Year 1
