6. Hertfordshire Constabulary | Case Study
Serving an area of 632 square miles with a population of well over a million people, Hertfordshire Constabulary were looking for a way to better serve their community. To provide Police Officers with access to real-time information at the point of need, to enable faster decision making, Hertfordshire invested in a cellular in-vehicle network.
Benefits delivered to Hertfordshire Constabulary:
Powerful WiFi in and around the vehicle for real-time access to the information needed, plus the ability to upload reports from the field – enabling Officers to spend up to an additional 2 hours a day in the community rather than at the station
Secure access to command and control systems, plus deployment of specialist technologies such as facial recognition and number plate recognition
Has since been extended from the core Police fleet to all covert and SOC vehicles
Has also been extended to Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire Police

Hertfordshire Constabulary were the first emergency service roll-out Westbase.io and Cradlepoint worked on, and we were brought in to solve the connectivity challenges they were experiencing… like so many others they couldn’t achieve a reliable enough signal with the built in modem on their laptops/tablets, especially in more remote locations.
They were looking for a way to enable their Officers to be more productive in the field, by giving them access to the information they needed, when it was needed.
Working with Panasonic and Vauxhall Specialist Vehicles, Westbase.io spec’d the Cradlepoint device and together we all delivered a “mobile police station” in the vehicle… the WiFi hotspot created by the Cradlepoint could be used both in and outside the vehicle so that Officers could connect their devices easily, and ultimately the overall solution enabled Officers to spend up to an additional 2 hours a day in the community.
It was so successful that it was even demonstrated for the Prime Minister, and while originally installed in squad cars it has since been extended out to SOC and covert vehicles as well, and beyond this it has also been rolled out to Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire Police who have a strategic relationship with Hertfordshire.
