2 Working quickly… Look at Anthology A.
Write in your yellow books a single sentence for each article to remind you of the content and key features of each passage: “A guide to beach safety is an advisory leaflet which uses colour and images to enhance the clarity of the message.”

3 Remember to slap… S: Structure L: Language A: Audience P: Purpose

4 For each of the letters, find key elements to write about:
How is the article structured distinctively? What use is made of layout on the page to create effect? What is the balance between images and text? Is there a headline or a use of subheadings?

5 L What sort of writing type is used – persuasion, advice, analysis, narrative, information… Is the language heightened at all? If so, how? Are there obvious literary devices in the writing? Why? Is it serious or is it more relaxed? How does the language relate to the writing type identified?

6 A Who is the intended audience?
What is the writer’s relationship with the audience? How does the writing reflect the age/thoughts of the intended audience? What specific features of the passage make it suited to a specific audience?
