The purpose of bullet notes think critically about WHY the author included certain details.
Most details are meant to develop a character and/or develop a theme.
We will look back through chs and create bullet notes for each chapter.

On your paper, draw 3 columns and label them like the columns below. In the first column, jot down an important event or detail from the chapter. Try to come up with 5 per chapter.

The WHY should be a literary function – usually development of character and/or theme.
Could also be symbolism (which circles back to theme)
Could also be foreshadowing/mood
Could also be setting (which circles back to character)
Be sure to explain what it reveals about character or theme, don’t just put “character.”
