WWI veterans petitioned the gov’t to give them bonus checks early because of the depression.
Blamed Hoover when Congress refused
2,000 had to be violently removed by National Guard

4. Election of 1932 Republican platform
Direct relief for people means people dependent on the gov’t.
Hoover - money to businesses instead of people
Democrat platform
Gov’t is ONLY entity large enough to help the people
FDR - give aid directly to the people
FDR: end prohibition - tax alcohol sales
FDR won in a landslide
