Between Continental Army(United States of America) and Great Britain Ended in 1783 in a treaty

3 Causes of the War Too many taxes Colonies want freedom
Started with Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party

4 Americans Significant person: Nathan Hale -American spy
Mission was to collect British battle plans on Long Island, he was caught and hanged His last words were: “I regret that I only have one life to serve for my country”

5 Great Britain Significant Person: Benedict Arnold
- An American General turned traitor to the British Many think that he turned to the British because he had a very strong, Loyalist family

6 Turning Point Battle of Saratoga:
Americans were spending the winter at valley forge and were given the strength. They eventually won the battle

7 Life on the Homefront Many women ran the stores, farmed, and did jobs that a man would do when they went to war This showed that women can do whatever a man can do

8 Peace The war ended in 1783 by the Treaty of Paris
Britain and America began talking about peace in in Paris, France Even though the king wanted to keep fighting, Parliament had voted over him

9 Effects of the War A new nation was created
Other countries used America’s example and tried to gain freedom, the French used the Declaration of Independence to write their own document of freedom The meanings of the Declaration, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are still remembered
