ERS Emergency Response Service

What is ERS? ERS is a 24 hour per day, police dispatched, mobile, crisis- intervention service in Peoria County.

What is the role of ERS? ERS provides assessment, stabilization, brief intervention and linkage/referral to community resources for individuals presenting with behavioral health emergencies and for those presenting with basic living needs (housing, food, clothing).

What is the ERS’s staffing pattern?
It is limited PRIMARILY to single staff coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

How can officers help ERS when requesting assistance?
Information to provide thru dispatch: Location of service needed The name of individual who needs assistance Generic description of assistance needed (evaluation, referral/linkage)

Information to provide at response scene:
What is the presenting problem? Is the individual receptive to help? Are there any known medical issues? What is the general tone of the response scene? Is it someone known to the requesting officer? (if so give history)

What legislation and other regulatory standards will allow and won’t allow
Exchange of information Criteria for hospitalization Request for protective custody Situations under which ERS will request transportation alternatives
