To contribute to increase in No. & quality of people with appropriate skills in devt. & management of technology for industry To promote increased interaction among researchers & technology managers in industry, HEIs & SETIs To stimulate industry & govt to increase their investment in research, technology devt., technology diffusion & promotion of innovation

10 3 Criteria for Support 1. High quality SET research with outputs to improve industry partner’s competitive edge 2. At least 1 SA student involved per R of THRIP investment 3. Scientific/technology and human resource outputs defined for each year of support 4. “First-time applicants” at a technikon or HBU - clearly defined technol outputs for year 1 may be overlooked

11 Criteria contd. 5. Project leaders at SETIs must involve students
6. At least 1 HEI & 1 industrial partner must be involved 7. Industrial partner must indicate that project will benefit Co 8. Must be investment commitment from industrial partner

12 Criteria contd. 9. Foreign industrial partner - must indicate how SA will benefit from technol outcomes 10.IPR issues must be resolved. Agreement may not restrict publication for more than 2 years 11.Receipt of complete/satisfactory proposal 12.Application for continuation of support, should include: ) Progress/Annual report ) Industry’s evaluation of progress as being satisfactory

13 4 Funding R1 for R2 Projects satisfying all THRIP criteria or
Where, in addition to criteria being met, at least 1 of the following apply: Involves at least 5 students - at least 50% black or female Only SMMEs (1 or more) investing financially More than 1 industrial partner collaborating - second highest at least 10% of the highest

14 SETI-Based Expertise Contracted to HEI
Max 30% of total THRIP contribution to project TIPTOP Options Funded at same ratio as projects overall Max R per person IPR Agreement Once-off contribution, Max R5 000 from THRIP: SMME - 50:50 shared cost HEI-based Project Leader - 100%
