2. INTRODUCTION Tindaya is a mountain located in La Oliva, Fuerteventura.
It has a special historical and archaeological interest because it has a lot of rock engravings.
Tindaya was a sacred place for the ``Majos´´. They carved in the mountain about three hundred engravings with foot shapes, called ``Podomorfos´´.

3. Tindaya is made of trachyte
Tindaya is made of trachyte. This stone ha s an important price, which has made that the stone has been exploited until recently.
In 1993 the Basque artist Eduardo Chillida plans a sculpture to be done in the mountain. It would be a big bucket of vacuum inside the mountain. This project caused the reaction of various environmental groups, who said that it would endanger both the structure of the mountain as the engravings.

Tindaya Mountain has the highest degree of Canary legal protection. It is a: • Natural Monument • Geological Point of Interest • Cultural Interest The Mountain has a high geological value, as it provides essential information about the history of the formation of all the Canary Islands.
