Objective: Plan and write 3 clear and cohesive body paragraphs that fully & logically defend my claim. Directions: 1. Label your original sheet from last class: 2. Choose a strong reason. 3. Write it. 4. Write a transition. 5. Write a frame, briefly explaining what’s happening in this part of the text. 6. Write evidence that supports this reason. 7. Briefly elaborate to show how the evidence supports this reason. 8. Follow steps 4-7 again. 9. Follow steps 2-8 for the 3rd box. 10. Label box 4 “Counterclaim”. 11. Write the counterclaim (opposite of claim). 12. Write a transition. 13. Frame, evidence, & elaborate to prove you’re still right. 14. Write your 3 body paragraphs on a separate sheet, stapling it to the back of the 1st paper. Body 1: Reason 2 Transition: One reason why… Since… Owing to the fact that… Reason 1: dumb Reason 2: bad choices 2X Frame: EX: Lord Capulet gives directions. 2X Evidence: Reason 3: terrible employee EX: “… find those persons out Whose names are written there,” (Shakespeare 192). 2X Elaborate: EX: The servant chooses not to follow directions. Claim: The Capulet’s servant is most culpable for Romeo and Juliet’s suicides. Body 3: Counterclaim Body 2: The servant is innocent b/c it was an honest mistake. Reason: Transition: It can be argued that… Some might say… Frame: EX: The servant knows he’s illiterate when he’s given directions. Evidence: “I am sent… [but] can never find those persons what names… [are] writ…. I shall find the learned,” (Shakespeare 191). Elaborate: EX: Has a solution, but still chooses to wander around aimlessly.
