1 Appositives

2 Definition -An appositive is a noun that renames another noun in a sentence -An appositive can have other adjectives or prep phrases with it -It comes right after the noun it describes

3 Definition continued -An appositive is able to replace the noun it renames because they are equal -An appositive can be removed from a sentence without a problem because it’s extra information -Commas should go around the appositive if it provides unnecessary information

An appositive is like an adjective clause that begins with “who is” or “that is” or “which is” except that it doesn’t use those words My father, who is a doctor, works today. (AC) My father, a doctor, works today. (App.)

5 Some reasons to use appositives
To add more information about a noun into a sentence in a short, easy way To explain what something means To give the name of a person in addition to a detail about them
