Calculations Workshop

2. Aims
To provide parents and carers with a better understanding of how calculations are taught at Prospect Vale.
To provide assistance to parents and carers in supporting their children achieve and learn.
To answer questions about any concerns you have about maths.

3. Mental Calculations
At Prospect Vale, we understand the importance of teaching mental calculation strategies and build this into our daily maths lessons.
Once a child has secure mental calculation strategies they will be taught to use informal jottings to support this, moving on to formal workings.

4. Calculations
More formal written methods should follow only when the child is able to use a wide range of mental calculations and informal jottings.
From this point children will then be taught to use and apply this knowledge.
