Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that causes people to lose more weight than what is considered healthy for their age and height. Most people who suffer from this disorder may have an intense fear of weight gain, even when they are underweight. They may diet excessively or exercise too much, or use other extremes methods to lose weight. The deliberately maintained low body weight and distorted body images of the those with the disorder puts them at high risk for medical and psychological complications as well as the risk of dying from the disease.
