2 Negro League Baseball Shut out of Major League baseball by the Gentleman’s agreement in the 1880’s, Black players sought to create leagues of their own In the 1930’s, while white baseball struggled during the great depression, the Negro League’s expanded and did very well

3 Negro League Baseball Leroy “Satchel” Paige- Most dominant player in the Leagues, possibly had 300 shutouts in his career and pitched 2500 games? Played on many different teams/barnstorming teams. Crowds came to get a glimpse of him on the mound. In 1948 oldest rookie in MLB history at 42. Played in All Star game in

4 Negro League Baseball Josh Gibson- black baseball’s best homerun hitter. (Black Babe Ruth) Hit 86 homeruns in 1936 and possibly 900+ for his career. Died at 35 in 1946, one year before baseball is integrated.
