1 Understanding the BSOC Flow
Introduction Segment KBT 1.2 Welcome to the second topic for the Introduction Segment of your 095-/200-Series Basic SPYDERCRANE Operator’s Course. In this topic, we will outline the basics of the course itself.

2 Topic Overview and Contents
This Topic (BSOC Schedule and Flow) is designed to provide you with an overview of the BSOC Training Program and what to expect as far as your responsibilities, schedule, and learning objectives You will learn about: The Basic SPYDERCRANE Operator’s Course (BSOC) The general schedule and flow of the BSOC and how your training will progress The specifics of the Knowledge-Based Training (KBT) section and the Practical Skills Training and Assessment (PSTA) section of your training For the second topic lesson of BSOC, we will go over the general goals, objectives and learning flow of the entire course.

3 Learning Objective(s)
This topic is designed to provide you with an overview of the BSOC Training Program and what to expect as far as your responsibilities, schedule, and learning objectives. At the conclusion of this Topic you should be able to... DLO 1.2.1: Demonstrate a basic understanding of the procedures, schedule, and success criteria for the Basic SPYDERCRANE Operator's Course. The DLO for this topic is for you to be able to demonstrate an understanding of how your training is structured and scheduled, as well as the class procedures and success criteria for completing the BSOC and earning your Operator’s Qualification.

4 Your Training Phases Basically, your BSOC training will be accomplished in two distinct phases: the online Knowledge-Based Training Phase and the hands-on Skills-Based Training Phase. The Knowledge-Based Training Phase (KBT) is accomplished either online, or in a classroom, depending on your specific training needs. As the name implies, KBT is focused on the technical background and information about using your SPYDERCRANE lifting system. Today, KBT is largely reading-based, but, videos and interactive simulations will be added to the syllabus as they become available. The Skills-Based Training Phase (SBT) is the practical phase of instruction where you will interact with the SPYDERCRANE in a safe working environment, under the guidance of a trainer, or an instructor.     Basically, your BSOC training will be accomplished in two distinct phases: the online Knowledge-Based Training Phase and the hands-on Skills-Based Training Phase.      The Knowledge-Based Training Phase (KBT) is accomplished either online, or in a classroom, depending on your specific training needs. 5 KBT Lessons and Topics Your KBT has five distinct parts, called LESSONS: Lesson 1, Introducing You to Your SPYDERCRANE Lesson 2, Finding Information for Your SPYDERCRANE Lesson 3, Traveling Your SPYDERCRANE Lesson 4, Deploying Your SPYDERCRANE Lesson 5, Lifting with Your SPYDERCRANE Each Lesson contains one, or more, TOPICS which help to break down the lessons into smaller segments Your BSOC training is accomplished in two phases: the online Knowledge-Based Training (or, KBT) Phase, and the Practical Skills Training (or, PST) Phase. Like you learned in the last Segment Topic, KBT has five lesson segments, including this one, the Introduction Segment. For segments 2 through 5, there are summative assessments that you will need to take, and pass, in order to advance on to the next training section. These summative assessments are designed to measure your understanding of the material and ability to complete the DLOs. Once you have completed all of the lessons, you will need to complete the summative assessment, which is an online test that tests your knowledge of everything you have been taught throughout the KBT Phase. You will need to achieve a minimum passing score on the summative assessment before you can move on to the PST Phase

6 SBT Segments The SBT is also structured in a building block patter; allowing you to learn about using your SPYDERCRANE in individual increments before tying together everything you have learned at the end of the SBT. Typically, the BSOC SBT takes a single training day (8 hours) for up to 5 students. Larger classes can take up to 2 days to complete. Where the KBT is broken down into Lessons, the SBT is broken down by SEGMENTS:  Segment 1, Introduction Segment 2, Information  Segment 3, Travelling Segment 4, Daily Inspections Segment 5, Deployment Segment 6, Lift Inspections Segment 7, Crane Control  Segment 8, Accessories Segment 9, Safe Lifting (Final Assessment)     The SBT is also structured in a building block patter; allowing you to learn about using your SPYDERCRANE in individual increments before tying together everything you have learned at the end of the SBT.     Typically, the BSOC SBT takes a single training day (8 hours) for up to 5 students. 7 PTSA Schedule Day One 0800-0850 Introduction Segment 0900-0915
Information Segment Travel Segment Daily Inspection Segment Deploy Segment Lift Inspection and Test Segment Crane Control Segment Jib System and Accessories Segment Safe Lifting Segment Day Two Free Practice for Final Assessment Final Assessments Primary/Secondary Power-Plant Segment Additional Training and Re-Assessment (as required) This is the schedule for a two-day, ten-student class. Again, the actual class schedule is dictated by the number of students and the pace set by the instructor and students.

8 Summary The major learning points that each student should take away from this Segment Topic: Your training is divided into two Phases, the online-only Knowledge-Based Training (KBT) Phase and the Practical Skills Training (PST) Phase Both the KBT and PST have end-of-phase summative assessments, where your knowledge, or skill, is assessed. You MUST pass both assessments to earn your SPYDERCRANE Operator’s Qualification The PSTA is a two-day training and qualification program that will result in you earning your SPYDERCRANE Operator’s Qualification (assuming ten students) The Major Learning Points for this Segment Topic are: Your training will occur in two phases, the online knowledge based training and the practical skills training and final assessment. Both phases have end-of-phase assessments that you must pass in order to earn your operator’s qualification While the KBT phase is self-paced, the PSTA is a two training day event, although for smaller classes the PSTA is often reduced to one day.
