Public Life The Marketplace was probably the center of public life.
The Agora – public markets and meeting places. (The Acropolis was the center of their religious life.) The men would meet in the Agora and talk politics, philosophy, or about events. Temples and government buildings would line the Agora. Insert a map of your country.

Public Life Buildings were beautiful structures because the Greeks admired beauty in architecture. Many government buildings in Europe and the United States are modeled after Greek architecture. Insert a map of your country.

At Home in Athens Greek homes were simple.
Made of mud Rooms around an open courtyard Water had to be carried from a public fountain. Greeks ate simple foods. Ate very little meat Insert a map of your country.

Athenian men believed women needed to be protected. Greek women needed to be guided by men. Could not vote Could not own property Only as priestesses could they be involved with any activity. Insert a map of your country.

At Home in Athens Women were responsible for running the household.
Responsible for running the household, taking care of the finances, managing the slaves. Women could work outside the house to make more money for the family. Insert a map of your country.

Slavery in Ancient Greece
Slaves did a great deal of work in Greece. Almost 1/3 of the cities population was slaves. Slaves were captured by armies during war . Children born into slavery were slaves. Insert a map of your country.
