Weekly Overview Week of October 15, 2018 LEARNING IS WINNING!! Math: This week we will be focusing on Unit conversions and problem solving with metric measures. Please refer to the Math News Letter on how this topic will be taught. This can be found in their Math Folders or online on teacher website. I have also posted some helpful videos for review online. Module 2 Test Thursday Study guides can be found in math folder. Science: Earth’s Processes Focus: Layers of the Earth In class discoveries, online research, videos, experiments, and discussions. Layers of the Earth Quiz Friday S.S. (BOTH CLASSES) We are continuing our study on the first colonies. At the end of the week we will use our charts to answer questions for a quiz grade. It is very important that students keep up with classwork in order to do this. Reading: We are finished with hurricanes and now beginning our new unit on the American Revolution. Tests will now be given every other week and will still be cold reads based on skills learned in class, as well as incorporating spelling words and writing within the test. Spelling: We are on unit 8 this week searching for and using words with the “oo” sound as heard in “flute”. Writing: Our writing has increased to 2 paragraphs and students are doing great using the RACE strategy for each paragraph! ACHIEVE3000.com website: Students were given a “tracker” sheet stapled in their planners and are now required to complete 10 articles/activities of their choice by Wed. Oct 31 for an ELA grade. Some have already completed a few and they are aware of how to access this info. Students use our computer lab twice a week, as well as do computer stations in class so there is ample time to complete the monthly assignment. Log-in info is located on the front page of planners. 2 of the 10 articles may be done at home if necessary. This website is a great resource to help comprehension skills! This will be an ongoing requirement every month, as it will start over again each month. Ask to see their graphs in their ELA folders as they track their monthly progress! Important Reminders Students may wear grade level shirts each Friday. You may purchase your "What You Do Matters" grade level shirts on the TMS Website through My Payments Plus. Get them while they last! Start reviewing Multiplication facts nightly as part of math homework. Our next unit will focus on Multi-digit Multiplication and Division. – ELA, S.S. – Math, Science, S.S.
