Taking the drugs which are originally developed to help people with illnesses but can make athletes faster and stronger in wrong hands is known as “doping”.

Ben Johnson would still be the 100 meters world record holder if he had not been caught taking drugs in the 1988 Olympics.

13. 5. Why are drug tests at sporting events often on step behind?
It is only compulsory for winners to be tested but other participants are only tested at random. Besides, new drugs are developed all the time and drug tests for sporting event are often one step behind.

14. 6. What would the effect of gene-therapy be on sport?
Gene-therapy can build athletes’ muscle and increase strength by changing their genes.
7. What is the Olympic spirit?
The spirit of competition which emphasizes taking part rather than winning.
