Analyze literary fiction through collaborative, seminar discussion. Compose a critical reflection of a text. Catalyst: Put your real name on the Pseudonym sheet. Homework & Reminders: Type your Native Son essay AS IS. Bring FOUR copies next class. Perrine’s reading (Symbol… and “Where Are You Going…?”) Wuthering Heights pre-reading and ch Reading check Friday/Monday. Have your notecard with DQs and your literary criticisms as well as composition book to keep notes. Pre-seminar reflection (Next slide: Composition notebook)

Pre-seminar reflection
Reflect on your experience with the novel. Put your reflection in your composition notebook Include the following: Can you implement the ideas of this novel in your current life? How? What has this novel meant to you? What are you hoping to still take away from this experience?

Small-Group Touchbase (10 mins.)
1A Collaborative small group discussion: Discuss your individual answers together. Consider some new discussion questions that could build your understanding. Discuss some mechanical-specific details from the text (any basic clarification needed?)

Native Son seminar Expectations: 30 formal points
Someone should begin discussion by asking a question, stating an opinion, or bringing up a motif Feel free to discuss the essay prompt (students who missed the test will have a separate prompt) This seminar may help you in the revision process Everyone is expected to contribute and actively listen A small group of individuals should not dominate Keep notes and keep track of who is contributing
